The entrance to the negotiation venue in Islamabad, Pakistan, still blocked on the 26th of last month [Yonhap News file photo]
Iran has delivered a new proposal to mediator Pakistan to end the war with the United States, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on the 1st (local time).
According to the report, Iran delivered the full text of the proposal to Pakistan the previous night. While there were no specific details about its contents, it is believed that the US response to previous proposals was taken into consideration.
Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, emphasized in a media interview the previous day that "the top priority in negotiating with the United States is ending the war and achieving lasting peace," IRNA added.
The United States and Iran held their first round of talks to end the war in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, on the 11th of last month but failed to reach an agreement.
Since then, both sides have explored the possibility of a second round of talks through Pakistan, but it has not yet materialized.
In the meantime, both sides have repeatedly rejected the negotiation terms presented by the other and made counter-proposals.
On the 27th of last month, the US media Axios reported that Iran had conveyed a proposal to the US through Pakistan, suggesting opening the Strait of Hormuz first and then continuing nuclear negotiations after declaring an end to the war.
Following this report, White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre stated in a briefing that "the President's red lines regarding Iran are very clear."
US President Donald Trump has maintained the position that naval blockade will continue as long as the issue of Iran's nuclear program is not resolved. Key US demands include Iran halting its nuclear program for 20 years and exporting all of its approximately 440 kg of highly enriched uranium.
President Trump is known to be reviewing pressure tactics to break the negotiation deadlock, including receiving a report on new military operation plans against Iran from the US military leadership the previous day.
