US S&P 500 Hits New Highs Daily on Apple's Strong Earnings... Nasdaq Surpasses 25,000 for the First Time

On this day, the S&P 500 index in the New York stock market closed at 7,230.12, up 21.11 points (0.29%) from the previous trading day. The Nasdaq Composite Index, led by tech stocks, closed at 25,114.44, up 222.13 points (0.89%) from the previous trading day.


The S&P 500 index renewed its record high for two consecutive days, and the Nasdaq index surpassed the 25,000 mark for the first time in its closing price history.


The Dow Jones Industrial Average, composed of 30 blue-chip stocks, closed at 49,499.27, down 152.87 points (-0.31%) from the previous trading day.


Apple, which announced "surprise earnings" the previous day, rose 3.24% today, leading the rise in tech stocks.


Although Apple's iPhone sales performance fell short of expectations in its earnings announcement yesterday, its stock showed strength as net profit and earnings forecasts exceeded expectations.


With five of the Magnificent Seven (M7) companies reporting earnings this week, all five surpassed market expectations, indicating that U.S. companies are continuing to generate strong profits and invest capital, centered around the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, despite the uncertainty of the Middle East conflict.


Ryan Detrick, senior market strategist at the Carson Group, told Reuters, "Investors have finished another solid week with stronger-than-expected corporate earnings continuing," adding, "There is a possibility that the upward momentum from April will continue into May."


International oil prices fell amid revived expectations for the resumption of peace talks between the U.S. and Iran.


Brent crude futures settled at $108.17 a barrel, down 2.0% from the previous trading day, and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures settled at $101.94 a barrel, down 2.98% from the previous trading day.


Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported today that Iran had delivered a new peace proposal to mediator Pakistan to end the war with the United States.


However, U.S. President Donald Trump said regarding the new peace proposal submitted by Iran through Pakistan, "They want an agreement, but I don't think it's satisfactory."
