A public opinion poll shows that 74% of Americans believe the U.S. holds an advantage over Iran, and 54% think the U.S. is in a favorable negotiating position.

According to a recent report by U.S. news outlet Newsmax, a poll conducted by the polling firm Harvard CAPS/Harris from the 23rd to the 26th of last month among 2,745 registered voters revealed that the majority of American voters support President Donald Trump's response to Iran.

The survey found that 52% of respondents supported U.S. airstrikes against Iran, and 54% stated the airstrikes were justified, indicating that over half of voters support direct military action. This is analyzed as reflecting the public's willingness to support the use of U.S. force in response to Iran's continued hostile actions.

Approval ratings for President Trump's diplomatic decisions also remained high.

The poll results showed that 78% of voters believe it was correct for President Trump to agree to a temporary ceasefire with Iran, while simultaneously, 57% supported the Trump administration's decision to blockade ships heading to Iran.

Furthermore, there was strong support for the idea that continuous pressure should be applied if Iran does not abandon its nuclear ambitions.

63% of responding voters stated that the U.S. should maintain the blockade in such a situation, and 74% answered that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons aligns with U.S. national interests.

Newsmax viewed the poll results as suggesting a bipartisan national awareness of the importance of preventing Iran's nuclear program, transcending party lines.

Respondents also expressed support for a comprehensive framework governing any potential agreement with Iran. 79% of those surveyed responded that Iran must cease its support for proxy groups like Hezbollah and Hamas, and 78% responded that Iran must stop executing protesters.

Additionally, 66% of respondents believe President Trump should adhere to all major conditions in negotiations, indicating a preference for a tough negotiating stance, according to Newsmax.

On the international front, 66% of voters supported the creation of a multinational navy to ensure the free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transport route.

The broadcast stated, "Overall, the April poll reflects that voters largely support the administration's actions regarding Iran and believe the U.S. is in a favorable position. While uncertainty about the ultimate direction of the conflict remains, the poll results suggest that voters prefer a response that combines military readiness, economic pressure, and firm diplomatic conditions as the situation unfolds."

The Harvard CAPS/Harris poll is conducted in conjunction with Harris Poll and HarrisX, releasing results monthly on major domestic and international issues.
