The White House announced on the 10th (U.S. time) that U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a summit in Beijing at 9 a.m. on the 14th, Beijing time.

Principal Deputy Assistant to the President for Asian Affairs Anna Kelly stated this during a pre-visit phone briefing on President Trump's trip to China on the same day.

According to the briefing, the two leaders are scheduled to meet in at least six events over two days, the 14th and 15th.

President Trump will arrive in Beijing on the evening of the 13th (local time) and, following a welcome ceremony on the 14th, will hold a bilateral meeting with President Xi.

On the same day, President Trump and President Xi are scheduled to visit the Temple of Heaven, a famous landmark in Beijing, and then attend a state dinner together.

President Trump plans to hold a private tea meeting and working lunch with President Xi on the 15th before departing China, the White House said.

Additionally, President Trump hopes to invite President Xi and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan, to Washington D.C. for a return visit within the year, Kelly stated.

Kelly said, "Under President Trump's leadership, the U.S.-China relationship is re-focused on rebuilding America's safety, security, and prosperity. This meeting between President Trump and President Xi will pursue these goals by soberly confronting the current economic and security realities."

She added, "During this visit, President Trump will rebalance the relationship with China to restore America's economic independence, as he has done over the past year, prioritizing reciprocity and fairness."

"This visit will hold immense symbolic significance, but President Trump does not visit foreign countries for symbolism alone," she said. "Americans can expect the delivery of better deals for our country."

Kelly then introduced the agenda for the summit, which includes pursuing the U.S.-China Trade and Investment Committee and additional bilateral agreements in the aerospace, agriculture, and energy sectors.

Furthermore, a senior U.S. official stated during the briefing that discussions on China's support for Iran and Russia will take place, and President Trump is expected to press President Xi on Iran's support.

"The President has discussed Iran and Russia issues with President Xi on multiple occasions," the official said, adding that President Trump has repeatedly pointed out China's potential purchase of Iranian crude oil and weapons exports, as well as exports of dual-use products to Russia, in his calls with President Xi.

The official added, "I expect the President to exert pressure (on President Xi)."

The official also stated that President Trump is expected to "raise issues related to China's nuclear program," and regarding the Taiwan issue, while dialogue between the leaders is ongoing, "no changes to U.S. policy (on Taiwan) are expected going forward."

Another senior official commented on the agreement for a one-year truce in the trade war reached in November last year, with the U.S. imposing semiconductor export controls and tariffs, and China prioritizing rare earth export controls, stating, "It is still valid and has not yet expired." "It is not yet certain whether it will be extended immediately, and it may need to be extended later, but I am confident that a potential extension will be announced at an appropriate time."

President Trump's visit to China is his first in approximately 8 years and 6 months since November 2017, during his first term. The meeting between President Trump and President Xi is the first in about six months since they met in Busan on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in late October last year.
