Police are investigating an incident where a member of the Jang Bogo Antarctic Research Station threatened other members with a weapon.

According to the Polar Research Institute, under the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, on May 13th at around 7:20 PM, a wintering researcher, identified as A, threatened other members with a weapon at the Jang Bogo Antarctic Research Station.

The station leader and other personnel took A to a separate location, and the incident was resolved without any casualties.

The Polar Research Institute decided to immediately medically evacuate A due to safety concerns for the other members. Although it was winter in Antarctica at the time, making aircraft operations virtually impossible, an evacuation method was secured through international cooperation.

Consequently, A departed the station on the 7th and arrived in Korea today, where they are currently under police investigation.

The Polar Research Institute stated, "Immediately after the incident, all remaining personnel underwent remote video interviews and professional psychological counseling," and added, "The station is currently operating normally."
