U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a summit in Beijing on the morning of the 14th (local time).

This will be the first face-to-face meeting between President Trump and President Xi in approximately six months, since their encounter in Busan during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in October of last year.

This marks the first meeting in Beijing since 2017, during President Trump's first term.

The two leaders are scheduled to participate in an official welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing around 10 a.m. on the same day, followed immediately by the summit talks.

Following the summit, they will jointly visit the Temple of Heaven (a place where emperors offered sacrifices to heaven) park in Beijing, and a state banquet will be held in the evening.

The summit is expected to cover a wide range of key bilateral and international issues, including tariffs and trade disputes, the situation in Iran, Taiwan, and controls on advanced technologies.

The two countries have been in conflict over reciprocal high tariffs and export controls, and are currently in a state of "ceasefire." Attention is focused on whether they can find some level of common ground, as both sides acknowledge the need to stabilize relations amidst growing global economic uncertainty.

President Trump will need to achieve tangible results, such as increased exports of soybeans, beef, and Boeing aircraft, ahead of the midterm elections in November. President Xi, on the other hand, is likely to focus on creating a favorable negotiation environment in the context of strategic competition with the United States.

The situation in the Middle East is likely to be one of the key agenda items for this summit.

Amidst ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, the Iranian nuclear issue and the tense situation in the Strait of Hormuz are expected to be discussed intensively.

President Trump is expected to ask President Xi to play an active mediating role regarding the issue with Iran, and China is also emphasizing its role as a mediator in Middle Eastern affairs, drawing attention to the message the two sides will deliver.

On the other hand, the Taiwan issue is one of the areas where the differences in stance between the two countries are most sharply revealed.

The United States is expanding its arms sales and security cooperation with Taiwan.

Prior to his visit to China, President Trump mentioned that he would raise the issue of U.S. arms sales to Taiwan in his meeting with President Xi.

In addition, there is interest in whether global issues such as artificial intelligence (AI) safety, advanced technology regulations, and climate change response will also be on the discussion table.

President Trump also plans to raise the issue of the imprisonment of Jimmy Lai, a Hong Kong pro-democracy media tycoon.

On the 15th, the last day of President Trump's visit to China, the two leaders are scheduled to continue further consultations through small tea talks and a luncheon meeting.

Following this, President Trump will conclude his three-day visit to China and depart for home.
