Amidst the historical distortion controversy surrounding MBC's '21st Century Prince Consort,' singer and actress IU, who plays the lead role, revealed her feelings, saying, "If I have caused any disappointment or shown any shortcomings, it is all my fault," and added, "I will take on more responsibility and do better."

IU made these remarks at a drama group viewing event held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul on the 16th, the finale day of '21st Century Prince Consort.'

IU, who celebrated her birthday on this day, took to the stage after watching the final episode with her fans.

She said, "I've been thinking a lot lately. If I had done better, this would not have happened," and continued, "As someone who receives your love, I will do even better. I will live my life without wasting a moment to become an IU who can take on more responsibility and show a better side."

She further emphasized, "I believe everything you say has a reason and is something I must accept. If there are any areas where I am lacking, please point them out, scold me, and push me, and I will work hard to become a better person."

IU did not directly mention '21st Century Prince Consort' in her remarks that day. However, as the words were spoken immediately after watching the final episode, it is interpreted as her expressing her feelings about the controversy surrounding the production.

'21st Century Prince Consort' received criticism from some viewers for distorting history. In the 11th episode aired on the 15th, during the enthronement ceremony of Prince Ian (played by Byun Woo-seok), officials shouted 'Cheonse' (used for feudal states) instead of 'Manse' (symbol of sovereign states), and the king wore a nine-dragon crown, used by officials in China, instead of a twelve-dragon crown, worn by emperors of sovereign states.

The production team apologized, stating, "We sincerely bow our heads and apologize for causing concern due to issues with world-building and historical accuracy." They added, "We will swiftly revise the audio and subtitles for those parts in future re-broadcasts, Video On Demand (VOD), and Over-The-Top (OTT) services."

Despite the controversy, the drama concluded with a viewership rating of 13.8% (based on Nielsen Korea nationwide).
