The Kookmin University Graduate School of Global Peace and Unification, an institution dedicated to fostering experts in unification based on liberal values, is now accepting applications for its Master's program for the 2026 fall semester.
The Master's program at Kookmin University's Graduate School of Global Peace and Unification operates over four semesters, with classes held on Thursday evenings and Saturdays to accommodate both working professionals and full-time students.
Graduates must complete at least 24 credits if they choose to write a thesis, or 30 credits if they opt for a thesis waiver. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be awarded a Master of Public Policy degree, and will be provided with opportunities to lecture on unification and security-related topics at public institutions and schools.
Various scholarship benefits are also available. The "Public Institution and Public Official Scholarship" provides 25% of tuition to current employees of public institutions and public officials (including military and police personnel). Additionally, 30% of tuition is provided to recommended individuals from partner institutions.
Furthermore, North Korean defectors, full-time Kookmin University faculty and staff's immediate family members, and military-dispatched students are eligible for a 50% tuition or enrollment fee reduction. The university also plans to support students' academic pursuits through a rich scholarship system, including teaching assistant scholarships, special scholarships, and external scholarships.
A representative from Kookmin University's Graduate School of Global Peace and Unification stated, "Writing a thesis is optional; students can receive their Master's degree by completing an additional 6 credits if they find the thesis burdensome."
They added, "Most classes are held on Saturdays, with some classes on Thursday evenings, attracting influencers from various fields including young professionals, lawyers, mid-level military and police officers, broadcasters, and prominent North Korean defectors currently enrolled. The satisfaction rate is very high due to the diverse programs offered alongside the Master's program."
Moreover, a doctoral program is set to be introduced in the second semester, with scholarships also available during the period of study through professor recommendations.
This admission cycle is for three majors: Peace and Security, North-South Integration, and North Korean Society. Applications will be accepted until 4 PM on Tuesday, May 26th. Applicants must complete the online application through Kookmin University's official academic affairs system and pay the application fee, followed by submitting the required documents via registered mail or in person within the deadline.
The admission process consists of 100% oral interviews, with the interview exam scheduled for Saturday, June 13th. The interview location and specific times will be announced later.
For detailed information regarding admissions, please contact the Kookmin University Graduate School of Global Peace and Unification Academic Affairs Team at 02-910-6563 or refer to the admission guidelines on the official website (https://gpu.kookmin.ac.kr).
