Hwang Kyo-ahn, the National Assembly candidate for Pyeongtaek B in the Freedom and Innovation Party, held his official campaign launch event on the 21st and appealed for voter support.
In his speech, Candidate Hwang stated regarding his candidacy in the Pyeongtaek B by-election, "I will create a 'Korea-US Global Security and Economy Special Zone' in Pyeongtaek and make it a place the world envies," emphasizing its strategic importance.
He emphasized the geopolitical significance of the special zone, which links Camp Humphreys, the Samsung Pyeongtaek Campus, and Pyeongtaek Port as one axis. While highlighting this, he also expressed his ambition to make Pyeongtaek the central city for South Korea's security and economy, as well as the industrialization of the Korea-US alliance, leveraging his administrative experience as Prime Minister and acting President as strengths, despite the limitations of a minor party.
Candidate Hwang Kyo-ahn promised, "I will revitalize Pyeongtaek's economy and elevate its status so that Pyeongtaek can become a Prime Minister-level belt, and make Pyeongtaek the number one city in South Korea, on par with an acting presidential level."
He declared, "We are not taking the easy path in politics. The Election Commission is blocking us, and the prosecution is blocking us. However, we will never yield. This situation cannot continue. Together with you, I will create a completely new Pyeongtaek."
Furthermore, he urged for support by saying, "Let's change the world together, regardless of political parties. Let's create a Pyeongtaek where entrepreneurs, small business owners, self-employed individuals, cultural and sports figures, housewives, youth, and seniors come together, a completely new Pyeongtaek, and let's protect South Korea together."
He particularly emphasized, "We missed the opportunity to innovate Pyeongtaek over the past 20 to 30 years. We must elect a leader who can make Pyeongtaek great. I will be a pioneer for Pyeongtaek. I will achieve what others cannot."
Earlier, at his candidacy press conference on the 18th, Representative Hwang emphasized that the effects of attracting businesses should not be limited to external capital and companies, but should also circulate within Pyeongtaek in terms of jobs, education, consumption, tax revenue, and living infrastructure.
He also revealed a plan to first create a foundation for 10,000 jobs for Pyeongtaek citizens and aim for an ecosystem of tens of thousands of jobs once the cluster is completed.
He also presented pledges for education and living infrastructure.
These include establishing a specialized high school related to AI and semiconductors in Godeok and linking it with the establishment of AI and semiconductor departments at Pyeongtaek University.
He also announced that he would include the KTX Gyeonggi Southern Station, the extension of the Sinan-san Line to Anjung Station, direct airport buses to Incheon Airport, major roads, and medical and cultural infrastructure as priorities for national planning under a special law.
