Former President Park Geun-hye, once dubbed the 'Queen of Elections,' will visit a traditional market to support the campaign of a conservative candidate, just over ten days before the June 3rd local elections.
In particular, with a close race unfolding in the Daegu mayoral election between Kim Bu-gyeom of the Democratic Party of Korea and Choo Kyung-ho of the People Power Party, attention is focused on whether the former president's move will accelerate the consolidation of the conservative bloc.
According to local political circles on the 22nd, the former president will meet with merchants and citizens at Daegu's Chilseong Market on the afternoon of the 23rd, along with candidate Choo.
Candidate Choo is scheduled to hold a campaign rally at Chilseong Market on the same day.
It is understood that former President Park will accompany candidate Choo for about 30 minutes at Chilseong Market, supporting his campaign rally.
Earlier, on the 4th, candidate Choo visited former President Park's residence in Dalseong-gun with Lee Cheol-woo, the preliminary candidate for Gyeongsangbuk-do Governor from the same party, and met with her.
At the time, candidate Choo stated that former President Park had offered words of encouragement, saying, "I hope you work hard in this election and achieve good results, and that you win," and added that she had also urged him to "gather strength well."
Kim Bu-gyeom, a candidate from the Democratic Party aiming to attract conservative votes, had also expressed his desire to meet former President Park early in his campaign.
He officially requested an audience with former President Park during a policy announcement event on the 13th.

A source from the local political scene commented, "The Daegu mayoral election is fluctuating to the point where it's impossible to predict who will take the lead between candidate Kim and candidate Choo. Therefore, former President Park's support for candidate Choo's campaign rally appears to be a significant move that could influence the election landscape."
