Senator Roger Wicker (Republican-Mississippi) has warned President Donald Trump against pursuing a diplomatic deal with Iran, stating that such efforts could be perceived as a sign of "weakness."

"This is a moment that defines President Trump's legacy," Wicker wrote on X.

Wicker added, "While Trump's instinct was to finish what he started in Iran, he is being ill-advised to pursue a deal that is not worth the paper it is written on." He emphasized, "Our Commander-in-Chief must allow our highly skilled military to finish the job of destroying Iran's conventional military capabilities and reopening the straits."

"Further pursuing an agreement with Iran's Islamist regime risks being seen as weakness," he continued. "We must finish what we started. The time for action has already passed."

These remarks come amid a growing debate within the Republican party over whether the Trump administration should continue to pursue diplomacy with Tehran or escalate military pressure following recent clashes with Iran.

Wicker is not alone in making such strong statements.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (Republican-Georgia) has advocated for a tougher stance against the Iranian regime, suggesting that President Trump should prioritize the overthrow of the Iranian regime in a Persian Gulf battle and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil transit route.

In an interview with Just the News, he stated, "Iran is a dictatorial regime that has murdered 42,000 of its own citizens in January. I have argued that the key to all of this is the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. We should put Admiral Cooper in direct command, delegate all other missions of CENTCOM to him, and then engage in battle in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz."

"We can do it. But we must literally focus all of our competent forces on winning this one battle," he urged.

Gingrich added, "Because if we are sufficiently ferocious and aggressive and break them in the straits and in the gulf, the world will realize that we are truly serious and truly dangerous, and as oil flows freely and prices go down, people will allow the President to continue a long, steady operation to bring down the dictatorship and drive it out of power."

Gingrich also said that Americans underestimate Iran and that peace through diplomacy and general means would be meaningless.

Gingrich's remarks came as he was explaining six things President Trump should do to help Republicans win the midterm elections.
