Hamas confirmed on Tuesday that Mohammed Odeh, recently appointed head of the terror group's military wing, was killed in an Israeli Defense Forces airstrike in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday.
Odeh had taken up his post just 11 days before he was killed, succeeding Izz al-Din al-Haddad, who was assassinated by Israel earlier this month, according to The Times of Israel.
Hamas stated that Odeh's wife and two children were also killed in the airstrike. The terror group added that the funeral for the family was held on Wednesday in a spirit of resistance.
Hamas did not mention who would succeed Odeh as head of the military wing in its statement.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said in statements that Odeh was the head of Hamas intelligence during the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.
Israel has killed dozens of Hamas leaders and military officials since the war began with the Hamas attack.
According to The Times of Israel, Odeh was likely the last surviving member of the Hamas armed wing's supreme command council prior to the war. Security officials stated that Odeh's death would be a "significant blow" to Hamas's reconstruction efforts.
Odeh, estimated to be in his late 40s or early 50s, reportedly grew up in the Gaza Strip and had been associated with Hamas his entire life. In the past, he was active in Hamas's security department, which was responsible for rooting out Israeli spies.
Israel had targeted Odeh on multiple occasions previously, including an attack on his father's home in Gaza in 2025 that killed his eldest son, Amr.
Military authorities released a video that they claim shows the airstrike that led to Odeh's death.
