Boy band BTS has mobilized 840,000 spectators across 15 performances in five cities in the United States and Mexico for the North American leg of their world tour 'ARIRANG,' their agency Big Hit Music announced on the 30th.
BTS sold out all seats in Tampa, El Paso, Stanford, Las Vegas in the U.S., and Mexico City in Mexico. In Tampa, Stanford, and Las Vegas, an additional performance was added once due to popular demand, but all tickets for these shows were also sold out.
Big Hit Music stated, "BTS presented a setlist encompassing songs from their new album 'ARIRANG' and the group's representative hits," and introduced, "The audience filled the venue, singing along to the Korean lyrics and raising the energy."
They continued, "Especially the chorus of the folk song 'Arirang' sung by the audience during the 'Body to Body' performance was a symbolic scene of this tour," adding, "The melody, filled with Korean sentiment, resonated with tens of thousands of voices in large stadiums, demonstrating the power to connect people worldwide."
U.S. local broadcaster ABC7 San Francisco reported that BTS's popularity is also spreading to an interest in the Korean language and culture.
Daphna Zur, a professor of Korean Studies at Stanford University, explained in an interview with the media outlet, "Unlike other foreign languages where the number of students is stagnant or declining, there is immense interest in Korean language, history, culture, literature, and sociology."
Meanwhile, U.S. music media outlet Billboard reported that BTS ranked first on the April 'Top Tours' with $76.2 million (approximately 114.8 billion won) in revenue and 417,000 tickets sold from eight concerts held in Goyang, Tokyo, and Tampa during April. In particular, the three concerts held in Tampa recorded the highest revenue and the largest audience for a single venue in April.
Billboard also analyzed that the concerts in Tampa and El Paso recorded an average revenue of $12.1 million (approximately 18.2 billion won) per show, an increase of about 64% compared to BTS's previous U.S. concerts.
BTS will meet their domestic fans with a concert at the Busan Asiad Main Stadium on June 12-13. In particular, June 13th marks the 13th anniversary of BTS's debut, and it is expected that the members and 'ARMY' (fandom name) will have a meaningful time.
They will begin their European tour on June 26th in Madrid, Spain, and embark on the second leg of their North American tour in August, starting with East Rutherford. (Yonhap News)
