Moss Chin 'Notification Upon Entry' Requested… Suspect Impersonating Japanese Lawyer in Bomb Threat Traced
Moss Chin preaching (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Choi Won-jeong = Professor Moss Chin (Korean name Dan Hyun-myung) of Liberty University in the U.S. is seen preaching during a service held at Eunpyeong Jeil Church in Jinguandong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 17th.
Professor Chin held a meeting that day with former Korean history instructor Jeon Han-gil, who has opposed the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, and others. 2025.7.17 away777@yna.co.kr
Police have booked Professor Moss Chin (Korean name Dan Hyun-myung) of Liberty University in the U.S., who has raised conspiracy theories related to President Lee Jae-myung, as a suspect and stated they will investigate him upon his entry into the country.
An official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency said at a regular press briefing on the 11th that Professor Chin was booked last month on charges of defamation and that a request for 'notification upon entry' has been made to the Ministry of Justice.
Professor Chin will therefore be automatically notified to the police if he re-enters Korea.
Professor Chin, who served as the U.S. Department of State's Ambassador for Global Criminal Justice during the first administration of Donald Trump, is accused of making false statements at a press conference hosted by the 'International Election Monitoring Group' held at the National Press Building in Washington D.C. in June.
He was reported by the civic group Free Korea Homeland Corps for allegedly disseminating false information suggesting that President Lee was involved in criminal activity during his youth. There are also suspicions that he repeated statements to the same effect during his visit to Korea last month.
Special forces searching for explosives (Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Yoon Dong-jin = Special forces are seen moving after completing their search at the KSPO Dome (Olympic Gymnastics Arena) in Olympic Park, Seoul, on the 10th, where a report of an explosive device installation was received. 2025.8.10 mon@yna.co.kr
Police stated that the fax threatening the installation of an explosive device at the KSPO Dome (Gymnastics Arena) in Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, reported on the 10th, was confirmed to have been sent from the same number as the fax from the 8th threatening a 'sulfuric acid attack' on students.
These faxes were all sent under the names of Japanese lawyers, including 'Garasawa Takahiro'. A total of 44 threatening faxes and emails have been received in relation to this since August 2023.
However, it has not yet been confirmed whether all 44 cases are the work of the same perpetrator.
Lawyer Takahiro claims to be a real person but denies committing such acts. Furthermore, recent threatening faxes have carried the names of other Japanese lawyers, leading police to believe impersonation is highly likely.
Police have assigned all cases to the Cyber Investigation Division and have requested Interpol cooperation and international judicial assistance three times and five times, respectively, to identify the sender of the faxes.
Considering the possibility that the sender may be located abroad, a joint meeting with the Japanese Embassy and other relevant entities is planned soon. However, police explained that following consultations with the National Intelligence Service, the actual feasibility of the threats was assessed as low.
A police official stated, "Regardless of the feasibility, as public anxiety is escalating and public resources are being wasted, we will actively pursue investigative cooperation."
