President Donald Trump has drawn attention by suddenly posting criticism of communists.
On Wednesday afternoon, President Trump posted on Truth Social: "Communists are always greeted with massive support from the voters, or as they call them, 'the people'! But in the end, that country, state or city goes to HELL! Unprecedented levels of horrific violence are committed, and the society collapses into poverty, misery and crime. Remember, first comes the suffocating 'popularity,' and then surely comes death and destruction!"
He followed up with another post: "Has anyone ever seen a happy Communist?"
While Trump has always identified as anti-communist, there is growing interest in the background behind his sudden mention of communists.
The civil society group "End Jewish Hate," which advocates for the eradication of antisemitism, sent a letter to New York Governor Kathy Hochul urging her to remove New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
In the letter, the group stated, "You have betrayed the public trust you swore to uphold, going beyond legitimate policy differences," and requested that she initiate removal proceedings due to his alleged misconduct in office, as reported by The Center Square on the 3rd.
This article was published about an hour before Trump's Truth Social posts.
Mayor Adams is a member of an organization called the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), which has established itself as a nationwide grassroots organization working towards its ambitious goal of transforming the United States into a socialist nation.
President Trump publicly refers to Adams as a "communist." For Trump, socialism is no different from communism; they are essentially the same in that they undermine democracy and destroy society.
The concerns raised by the pro-Jewish group calling for Adams' removal are as follows: "We are not asking for Mayor Adams to be removed because of his statements, political views, or the people with whom he associates. The First Amendment protects us all. However, when his vetoes, appointments, executive orders, or their absence result in putting New Yorkers at risk and systematically stripping them of their civil rights and constitutional freedoms, we request that you exercise your lawful authority to remove him from his position as Mayor of New York."
The letter stated, "Despite receiving information about specific incidents targeting New York's Jewish community and their places of worship, Mayor Adams has failed to fairly enforce existing laws concerning obstruction of governmental administration, assault, harassment, targeted intimidation, vandalism, and trespassing. As a result, New York's Jews receive less protection than anyone else when going to school, worshiping, shopping, or walking down the street."
Furthermore, citing the latest data from the New York Police Department, the letter revealed that hate crimes in the city increased by nearly 12% in the first quarter of this year, with antisemitic crimes accounting for the majority, at 55%.
Adams has previously faced criticism from Jewish organizations for his solidarity with pro-Palestinian groups, criticism of the Israeli government, and for using the phrase "globalize the intifada," which has been associated with violent acts against Jews.
Recently, Jewish organizations criticized Mayor Adams' decision to skip the annual Israeli flag-raising ceremony on Sunday, May 31st, with one council member calling it an "insult" to the city's Jewish community.
Adams became the first New York City mayor to skip the parade since its inception in 1964, sparking significant controversy. The official theme of this year's parade was 'Proud Americans, Proud Zionists'.
