The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump plans to deploy National Guard troops and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents to the capital, Washington D.C., in a "war on homelessness and crime."

A Defense Department official told The New York Times (NYT) on the 11th (local time) that the National Guard was on standby following President Trump's order to strongly respond to crime in Washington D.C.

The official added that hundreds of National Guard troops stationed in Washington D.C. would be deployed.

The Washington Post (WP) had previously reported that President Trump might pursue the mobilization of the National Guard as one of the measures.

The NYT also reported that the FBI plans to temporarily reassign 120 of its agents for night patrols in the Washington D.C. area.

An FBI spokesperson stated in a press release, "This is a measure in response to increased federal law enforcement demands in Washington."

Previously, the FBI had deployed approximately 900 agents to crack down on undocumented immigrants, an initiative pushed by President Trump.

President Trump is scheduled to hold a press conference at the White House this morning to announce measures to eradicate crime and homelessness in Washington D.C., including the deployment of these personnel.

In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, President Trump stated, "Washington D.C. will be liberated today. Crime, barbarism, filth, and human waste will be gone."

President Trump continued, "The era of ruthlessly killing or harming innocent people is over. I quickly secured the border (through measures like cracking down on undocumented immigrants), and next is Washington D.C."

In a post on Truth Social on the 5th, he had warned, "If this continues, I will use my authority to federalize this city," after listing violent incidents by teenage gang members in Washington D.C.
