Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be deployed to New York City on an unprecedented scale, White House border czar Tom Homan announced Monday.
Homan told Fox News' 'Fox & Friends' on Monday, "You are going to see more ICE officers in New York City than you have ever seen before."
He added, "I just reviewed the operation plan," and "I'm not going to tell you exactly when it's going to happen, but it's coming."
This is a response to New York's legislative package, signed into law last month by Governor Kathy Hochul, which limits federal immigration enforcement.
The bill prohibits law enforcement officers from wearing masks, prevents state and local law enforcement agencies from participating in civil immigration enforcement, and prohibits federal authorities from using state and local facilities for immigration enforcement purposes.
In addition to New York, several other Democrat-led states, including New Jersey, Virginia, and California, have passed similar legislation.
Homan stated that he told Governor Hochul before she signed the bill, "If you sign that bill, I'm going to send more agents to New York," adding, "Because now instead of one agent picking up one illegal alien at one jail, we're going to have to send a whole team to go find that one illegal alien that doesn't want to be found."
He said, "We have no choice but to send more ICE agents to New York because New York has taken away the efficiency of safely arresting aliens in county jails."
