U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 8th (local time) that he would reach a "strong" peace agreement that absolutely does not allow Iran to possess nuclear weapons.
In a phone interview with the British BBC on the same day, President Trump said, "We are very close to reaching a very strong agreement. It's a very good agreement. No nuclear weapons. Nothing else."
When asked how he stopped Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who carried out an attack on Iran during the peace negotiations, President Trump replied, "All I did was say, 'We have to use common sense.'"
It is known that President Trump spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu twice, on the previous day and on the current day, and demanded a halt to the attack on Iran.
The intention was to refrain from actions that would disrupt the negotiations as a final agreement with Iran approached.
When asked if Prime Minister Netanyahu unilaterally carried out the attack despite his dissuasion, President Trump claimed, "No. (When I spoke with Netanyahu) the missiles had already been launched. The missiles were already in flight."
He added, "Prime Minister Netanyahu does what I tell him to do."
These remarks came at a time when President Trump was escalating pressure on Prime Minister Netanyahu, as Israel's attack on Lebanon was considered the biggest obstacle in the peace talks between the United States and Iran.
In a phone call with Prime Minister Netanyahu on the 1st, President Trump pressed him to stop the attack on Lebanon, using profanity, and both Israel and Iran announced a temporary halt to operations on the 8th.
