People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk holds a meeting with university students who issued a statement on the nation's current situation regarding the ballot shortage issue at the National Assembly on the 10th. [Yonhap News]
People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk said on the 10th regarding the election of the party's new floor leader, Chung Jin-suk, "I will continuously exchange opinions with Floor Leader Chung on how to newly operate the party and consider it together."
Leader Jang made these remarks to reporters at the National Assembly on the same day.
Jang's remarks are interpreted as reiterating his stance against resignation.
Within the People Power Party, there has been continuous criticism of Leader Jang's responsibility following the defeat in the local elections.
Regarding the re-entry of independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, whom he expelled, Leader Jang also stated, "As the party leader, my role and position have not changed," adding, "There are various procedures for re-entry, and the party leader plays a role in that process. I have consistently maintained my position on that issue."
This is also seen as a reaffirmation of his stance against Han's re-entry.
Meanwhile, regarding the rise in the party's approval ratings after the June 3rd local elections, Leader Jang stated, "The Lee Jae-myung administration has been covering up its failures in the economy and people's livelihoods, but the bomb would explode after June 3rd. It has become a reality," and "Even in the press conference marking his first year in office, he did not abandon his ambition to withdraw the indictment and responded to the housing price issue as if he were a president of another country."
He added, "Crucially, I believe the public sentiment, angered by the ballot shortage incident, also played a role."
