The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) has proposed a groundbreaking method to eradicate mail-in ballot fraud by restricting the delivery of absentee ballots to states that do not submit their voter registration lists.

This USPS policy is a rule proposed in late May, following an executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump on March 31st. While not yet in effect, it is expected to be implemented soon.

Previously, the Trump administration, as part of its efforts to ensure election integrity, had been pushing for federal government review of voter rolls managed by state governments to identify non-citizens or deceased individuals on these lists.

States led by Republicans generally complied with the federal government's request. However, 23 states and Washington D.C., led by Democrats, filed lawsuits, arguing that the federal government was infringing on states' authority to manage their elections. Some states also stated that they could not disclose voter rolls to protect residents' privacy.

A federal judge in Washington D.C. dismissed a request to block the order last month, allowing the USPS to proceed with its implementation, NPR reported on Tuesday, June 2nd.

President Trump is most concerned about the practice of "universal mail-in voting" (or all-mail voting). This involves automatically sending absentee ballots to all registered voters without a specific request. This practice increases the risk of ballots not being received or voted by various voters, such as those with incorrect addresses, those who have moved out of state without updating their address, deceased voters, or those hospitalized or on business trips out of state. It also heightens the risk of crimes like ballot theft and harvesting.

Furthermore, a significant issue raised is the considerable time it takes for mail-in ballots to arrive at polling stations and be counted, leading to outcomes that are determined weeks after election day. For this reason, MAGA voters view universal mail-in voting as a practice highly susceptible to election fraud.

When requesting voter registration lists from states to eradicate this issue did not yield successful results, President Trump's proposed method is for the postal service to control the delivery of mail-in ballots altogether.

Under this measure, states will be required to submit lists of all absentee and mail-in voters, along with personalized barcode information for all ballots. Failure to do so risks the USPS completely suspending delivery.

The directive also requires the Department of Homeland Security to compile a list of citizens using federal data.

In a May interview with CNN, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson stated, "The administration will continue to lawfully implement policies that include the safety and security of American elections, which is why President Trump was elected."

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures website, universal mail-in voting is currently implemented in California, Colorado, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Washington, and Washington D.C. Additionally, 15 other states, including Alaska, New Jersey, and Maryland, allow for the use of universal mail-in voting in specific regions or for certain elections.
