The Global Aerospace Industry Association (President Shin Dong-chun) held its 18th International Academic Seminar, celebrating the 10th anniversary of its founding, on the 12th at the National Aviation Museum, located within Gimpo Airport, with the participation of association members and aerospace professionals.
Since its inaugural general meeting on October 21, 2016, the association has held a total of 17 academic seminars up to last year and has published its journal six times. Furthermore, the GASI Bulletin was launched in January 2026.
At this event, a commemorative reception was held with the participation of guests from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, related organizations, and industry leaders. The opening ceremony featured congratulatory speeches from distinguished guests including Kwon Do-yeop, former Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs and advisor to the association; Dr. Karakoc, President of the International Aviation Education Association based in Turkey, with whom the association signed an MOU last year; and the President of the Malaysian Drone Association.
In the first session, Hwang Yong-sik, Dean of the College of Business and Economics at Sejong University, presented and evaluated the association's academic and industry cooperation activities through an analysis of presentation materials from the 1st to the 17th seminars. Yoon Yong-hyun, an adjunct professor at Kookmin University, gave a comprehensive summary presentation titled "Development and Challenges of Drones and UAM in Korea."
In the second space session, research presentations and discussions on Korea's achievements and future challenges in the space sector were led by Ahn Hyung-jun, a research fellow at the Science and Technology Policy Institute, and Park Jeong-ho, director at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute.
Over the past decade, the association has been recognized for its significant contributions to the development of Korea's aerospace academia and industry through the establishment of a network among industry, academia, government, and research institutions, and a convergence-based approach encompassing both academia and industry.
President Shin Dong-chun expressed his sincere gratitude for the active participation and support from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the two airport corporations and related organizations, universities, research institutes, and the industry. He also requested continued efforts and collaboration to elevate the status and standing of Korea's aerospace industry to the top tier globally in the coming years.
The association was granted corporate status by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2017 and became a public interest corporation (designated donation recipient) by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in 2023. It currently has approximately 300 individual and corporate members.
