An Iranian negotiation team, meeting with the U.S. in Switzerland, walked out of the talks in protest of threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump, Iranian media reported on the 21st (local time).

According to Reuters, Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported this, citing sources.

A member of the Iranian negotiation team told Iranian media, "If the war in Lebanon does not end, negotiations on other subjects will not proceed," Reuters added.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency reported that the talks, which were proceeding as a four-party meeting with mediator countries Pakistan and Qatar participating, went into recess after 80 minutes, and then the Iranian delegation abruptly left the negotiation site, pushing the talks into a significant impasse.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Parliament and head of the Iranian negotiation team, retorted, "Do you not think that if their threats had any effect, we would not have reached such a desperate state today?" and dismissed them, saying, "We never take U.S. threats seriously."

He continued, "The U.S. would do well to speak cautiously," and issued a strong warning, "Our military is ready to respond in a different way, and we will not be swayed by whatever they say."

Earlier, President Trump had threatened on the social media platform Truth Social that he would launch strong airstrikes against Iran if it did not prevent the pro-Iranian armed group Hezbollah.
