Last year, President Trump sought to fire Governor Cook, alleging that she had provided false information on a mortgage application. Cook challenged the dismissal and successfully obtained a stay of execution from a lower court.

President Trump requested that the appellate court overturn the lower court's decision, but the stay of execution was upheld by the appellate court last September.

The Supreme Court's decision on this day was made by a 5-4 vote, with Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Amy Coney Barrett dissenting. Chief Justice Roberts delivered the majority opinion.

On the morning of the 29th, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, "The case regarding Cook’s position on the Federal Reserve Board was remanded to the lower court by the Supreme Court on procedural grounds. We will take appropriate action immediately to ensure that someone who has engaged in misconduct does not make important decisions regarding the welfare of the United States!"

According to Breitbart News, while Monday's ruling did not reach a final decision on whether the reasons for President Trump's attempt to remove Cook meet the "cause" requirement demanded by the courts, it made it clear that the matter is subject to further judicial review.

Breitbart News reported that if the Trump administration continues to pursue Cook's removal, the lower court may be required to determine whether the mortgage fraud allegations meet the necessary legal criteria.
