The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a branch of the British Royal Navy, announced on the 5th (local time) that a cargo ship had been attacked off the Red Sea coast of Yemen.

The vessel, located 30 nautical miles (55.56 km) southwest of Hodeidah, Yemen, reported that it had come under attack by unidentified armed forces.

The UKMTO stated that relevant authorities are currently investigating the incident. No details regarding casualties, property damage, or the identity of the attackers were mentioned.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to the Associated Press, while Yemen's Houthi rebels have threatened to resume attacks on ships in the Red Sea, they have not yet carried out any such operations. The Houthis did not respond to requests for comment on this matter. Additionally, Somali pirates have recently been active in more distant waters of the Gulf of Aden.

The UKMTO has advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
