On the 10th, People Power Party Rep. Joo Jin-woo announced that he would "file criminal complaints against the responsible police command line for abuse of power, neglect of duty, and violations of the Public Official Election Act" in response to media reports claiming that police were aware of the so-called "former Reform Party Busan mayoral candidate Jeong I-han terror hoax" even before the June 3 local elections.

At a press conference at the National Assembly that day, Rep. Joo stated, "The police unfairly intervened in the Busan mayoral election, helping (Democratic Party of Korea) candidate Jeon Jae-soo get elected by causing a split in conservative votes."

He argued, "Even though Jeong I-han was going around committing a major election crime by faking a terror attack with a cast on his neck, the police kept that fact hidden from voters," adding, "Jeong I-han’s confession regarding the terror hoax must have already been reported to the Blue House through the National Police Agency in May."

After the press conference, he met with reporters and said, "If it is uncovered that the Democratic Party of Korea was aware of this fact and colluded or communicated with the police, it could potentially lead to the invalidation of candidate Jeon Jae-soo’s election, although there is no evidence of that yet," adding, "If (the police) do not conduct a proper investigation, there will ultimately be no choice but to appoint a special prosecutor."

In the previous June 3 Busan mayoral election, candidate Jeon Jae-soo received 50.52% of the vote, while People Power Party candidate Park Heong-joon received 47.90%. Former candidate Jeong’s vote share was 1.56%.
