The death toll from the series of earthquakes that struck Venezuela on the 24th of last month is approaching 4,500.

National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced on his Telegram account on the 12th (local time) that the official death toll currently stands at 4,490. This is an increase of 157 from the previous day's announcement.

The number of injured (16,740) and those rescued (6,462) remains unchanged.

Material damage is also significant. A total of 856 buildings have been damaged, 190 of which were completely destroyed. As a result, the volume of building debris collected to date has reached 6,700 tons.

To make matters worse, the fear of aftershocks persists. Since the initial series of earthquakes, there have been 1,222 aftershocks. Notably, at 11:02 p.m. on the 11th, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake occurred 5 km northwest of Naiguatá in La Guaira State. La Guaira State is the region that suffered the most damage from this earthquake.

Approximately 65,000 personnel, including rescue workers and volunteers, are engaged in recovery and medical support efforts, but operations are facing difficulties due to the ongoing aftershocks and the collapse of infrastructure.
