Xinhua News Agency reported that Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended a reception held in Pyongyang on the 16th to mark the 65th anniversary of the signing of the North Korea-China Treaty of Friendship.

According to the report, Chairman Wang stated in his speech at the reception that "65 years ago, the senior leaders of China and North Korea signed the 'Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance Between China and North Korea,' laying an important political and legal foundation for the militant friendship between the two peoples." He added, "Over the past 65 years, the political mutual trust between the two countries has been continuously solidified, exchange and cooperation have developed with the times, and strategic cooperation has deepened day by day."

Chairman Wang said, "China is willing to work with North Korea to firmly carry out and implement the important consensus reached by General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Kim Jong Un, and, taking the 65th anniversary of the treaty as an opportunity, uphold good traditions and firmly grasp the direction of the advancement of China-North Korea relations."

He further added, "We intend to deepen exchanges and mutual learning, continuously promote the well-being and friendship of the two peoples, and demonstrate our responsibility to the era by working hand-in-hand to promote peace and stability in the region and the world."

According to Xinhua, North Korean Premier Pak Tae-song emphasized that for the past 65 years, the North Korea-China friendship treaty has "made an important contribution to promoting the development of North Korea-China relations and the socialist cause of both countries, as well as safeguarding peace, stability, and security in Northeast Asia." He added, "The fact that we are holding this grand commemorative event today fully demonstrates the significant strategic meaning of the treaty and the powerful vitality of the North Korea-China friendship."

Xinhua also reported that Premier Pak stated, "North Korea is willing to follow the important consensus reached by General Secretary Kim Jong Un and General Secretary Xi Jinping, continue to uphold the spirit of the treaty, and incessantly strengthen the North Korea-China relationship—with socialism at its core—to write a new chapter of North Korea-China friendship together."

Xinhua explained that about 200 figures from both North Korea and China, including CPPCC Vice-Chairman Wang Dongfeng, attended the reception, and that the North Korean side presented a performance of songs praising North Korea-China friendship.

Chairman Wang is on a friendship visit to North Korea from the 15th to the 17th at the invitation of the North Korean Party and government.

This visit comes immediately after a North Korean delegation led by Premier Pak Tae-song paid an official visit to China to mark the 65th anniversary of the treaty. It is interpreted as a move by North Korea and China to showcase their traditional friendly relations and strengthen strategic communication both internally and externally through high-level exchanges.
