The Army Special Warfare Command (SWC) announced on the 28th that it conducted combined Korea-US maritime infiltration training near the Anmyeondo sea training area in Taean, Chungnam, from August 25th to 27th, as part of the combined Korea-US 'Ulchi Freedom Shield' (UFS) exercise.

The training focused on improving the tactical doctrines and interoperability of both countries.

Approximately 40 personnel from the SWC's Guiseong Unit and the US 7th Air Force's 604th Aviation Support Operations Squadron participated in the training.

Additionally, aviation assets including two F-16 fighter jets from the US 7th Air Force's 51st Fighter Wing and two UH-60 helicopters from the US 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-US Combined Division's 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade were deployed.

The training began with SWC joint terminal attack controllers and US joint terminal attack controllers, who had infiltrated in advance, guiding aviation fire onto enemy facilities in the landing zone.

As US F-16 fighter jets' attacks created conditions for entry into the landing zone, SWC commandos aboard US UH-60 helicopters rapidly moved to the nearby sea.

The SWC commandos, who egressed at low altitude from the helicopters, covertly maneuvered approximately 15 km to the landing zone using high-speed rigid inflatable boats.

Upon arrival at the landing zone, the SWC commandos transmitted target information for aviation guidance on the targets identified through special reconnaissance.

Shortly thereafter, US F-16 fighter jets, having received the information, successfully eliminated the final targets with aviation fire. The training concluded with the SWC commandos departing the operational area by helicopter.

The SWC plans to further strengthen combined special operations readiness by enhancing Korea-US alliance interoperability through realistic combined Korea-US training in various locations. Yonhap News
