U.S. President Donald Trump on the 31st (local time) reiterated his rejection of the Federal Court of Appeals' recent ruling that he lacked the legal authority to impose reciprocal tariffs on trade partners.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, "Without tariffs, and the trillions of dollars we have already collected, our country would have been completely destroyed and military power eliminated immediately."
He continued, "A group of radical left judges did not care, with a 7-4 decision, but one Democrat appointed by (former President Barack) Obama voted to actually save our country. I thank him for his courage. He loves and respects America."
The President's post on this day was a reiteration of his rebuttal to the Federal Court of Appeals' ruling on the 29th, which stated that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), cited by Trump as the basis for imposing reciprocal tariffs, did not grant him the authority to do so, emphasizing the justification of his tariff policy.
On the day of the ruling, Trump had already criticized the court as "politically biased" through Truth Social and announced his intention to appeal to the Supreme Court, stating, "If these tariffs disappear, it will be a total disaster for the country."
