Supreme Court to hold nationwide chief judges meeting on the 12th…Responding amid the ruling party's push for judicial reform
As the Democratic Party of Korea accelerates the processing of judicial reform bills, chief judges from across the nation are set to convene.
According to legal circles on the 5th, the Supreme Court will hold an extraordinary meeting of nationwide chief judges at 2 p.m. on the 12th at its building in Seocho-dong.
Historically, chief judges have gathered at such meetings whenever major issues related to the courts arise, voicing significant opinions in the judicial branch's policy decisions.
Earlier, on the afternoon of the 1st, Court Administration Director Cheon Dae-yeop (Supreme Court Justice) posted on the court's internal network (Cournet), stating his position on the 'Five Key Agendas for Judicial Reform' being pursued by the Democratic Party and mentioning the consideration of convening a nationwide chief judges meeting.
To this end, he also requested that each level of court gather the opinions of its judges.
It is expected that the Supreme Court will move beyond the existing approach of addressing issues primarily through the Court Administration Office, its judicial administrative body, and express the judicial branch's official stance by consolidating the will of all its members. Yonhap News
