The Democratic Party of Korea evaluated on the 17th the issuance of an arrest warrant requested by the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor for lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong by the court, stating it is "a starting point for restoring the rule of law."
Senior Spokesperson Park Soo-hyun stated in a written briefing that day, "The court's decision to arrest Rep. Kwon is only natural."
Senior Spokesperson Park said, "The entanglement between the Unification Church and Rep. Kwon is not at the level of simple illegal political funds and favors, but is emerging as another case of state sabotage committed through collusion between a specific religion and politics."
He continued, urging, "Rep. Kwon should not appeal for sympathy by talking about 'lies' any longer, but should faithfully cooperate with the special prosecutor's investigation according to law and principles and take responsibility before the public."
Supreme Council Member Kim Byung-joo stated at the Supreme Council meeting that day, addressing Rep. Kwon, "You must pay the price for your sins. Let's be done with this. Kwon Seong-dong out."
Supreme Council Member Jeon Hyun-hee wrote on Facebook, "Rep. Kwon Seong-dong, arrested following his old friend Yoon Suk-yeol, is a righteous retribution. I hope he reflects and repents together with his co-inmate in detention, Yoon Suk-yeol, for the harm he has caused to his party and the political history of Korea."
Rep. Seo Young-seok argued on Facebook, "Yoon Suk-yeol in prison, Kwon Seong-dong arrested. The moral bankruptcy of the People Power Party. The truth of illegal political funds and whether they were used in the presidential election must be revealed to the end."
Rep. Seo Mi-hwa also wrote on Facebook, "It is truly shameless for Rep. Kwon to portray himself as a victim of 'political oppression'." Yonhap News
