Yoon requests bail in additional indictment trial… asks for trial without detention

Former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who has been additionally indicted by the special prosecutor's team investigating allegations of rebellion and foreign collusion related to the 12.3 martial law, has requested the court to allow him to stand trial without detention.

According to legal circles on the 21st, Yoon's legal team filed for bail (release with conditions such as a security deposit) with the Seoul Central District Court's Criminal Settlement Division 35 (Presiding Judge Baek Dae-hyun) on the 19th. The reasons cited for the request were the guarantee of substantial defense rights and health reasons.

Yoon, who was previously detained on charges of leading the rebellion, was released in March following a court decision to revoke his detention. However, he was re-detained by the special prosecutor's team in July, four months later.

The special prosecutor's team for the rebellion indicted Yoon for trial in detention on charges including abuse of power, such as infringing upon the constitutional rights of nine State Council members to deliberate and resolve martial law by convening only a portion of the State Council to create the appearance of a State Council meeting before declaring martial law.

The first hearing for the additionally indicted case is scheduled for the 26th.

Meanwhile, Yoon has been absent from the trial for the rebellion leadership charges, being handled by the Criminal Settlement Division 25 of the Central District Court (Presiding Judge Ji Gwi-yeon), for 10 consecutive hearings up to the 19th. Yonhap News
