Jeong Dong-young, a South Korean National Assembly member and Minister of Unification, recently stated that he is in discussions to halt live-fire training exercises by the South Korean military. While suspicions have long existed that Jeong is loyal to North Korea, his blatant representation of North Korean interests to this extent is shocking.

As soon as he became the Minister of Unification, he halted the anti-North Korea broadcasts that had been promoted by North Korean defector groups and state agencies, and also put the brakes on South Korea-U.S. combined military exercises. Now, it seems he intends to turn the national military into scarecrows that cannot even properly fire a gun. This is a clear example that his heart lies not with the Republic of Korea, but by the side of Kim Jong-un. It is difficult to avoid the suspicion that he is a high-ranking spy.

In what country in the world does the military not conduct live-fire training? The primary reason the military uses live ammunition is to survive in combat. Therefore, halting live-fire training is no different from telling our soldiers to go out and get shot. If that is the case, it would be better to simply disband the military and stand up scarecrows, as the current military would become nothing more than a useless entity that only drains taxpayer money.

North Korean soldiers receive training focused on real combat for over 10, sometimes up to 13 years. If the South Korean military, with a service period of only 18 months, cannot even properly fire live ammunition, can it truly be called a military? This is not unrelated to Lee Jae-myung’s choice to appoint Jeong Dong-young as minister. Ultimately, one cannot help but conclude that there is an underlying political intention to hand the Republic of Korea over to North Korea.

Even more serious is the fact that despite these pro-North Korean and anti-state acts taking place in South Korea without restraint, no one is holding anyone legally or politically accountable. This proves that South Korean society has already become a world dominated by left-wing forces backed by North Korea and China.

While Lee Jae-myung promotes "self-reliant national defense," his actions practically make the withdrawal of U.S. forces a fait accompli. Behind this lies the audacity stemming from the backing of China and North Korea. The problem is that in a country where such treacherous political acts run rampant, the citizens are being dragged along helplessly. In the end, there is no country where betrayal and treason are as rampant as in South Korea, and the public's apathy and bystander mentality are only worsening the situation. It even leads one to think that it might be better for the U.S. forces to leave first and reveal the true face of the Republic of Korea.
