Following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, many have spoken of his legacy of guiding American politics toward Christian conservative principles, Newsmax reported on the 29th (Monday).
The report stated that Kirk's visit to Korea in the final days of his life brought new hope to struggling Korean believers that his legacy would extend to Korea.
In a eulogy for Kirk on September 21, Senator Marco Rubio revealed that Kirk had asked him if he could discuss the situation in Korea just days before his death.
"One of the last messages I had with him, the last communication I had with him, was a letter that he sent me from overseas, just a few days before he passed away," Rubio told tens of thousands of people in Glendale, Arizona. "He said, 'I'm in Korea. And when I get back, I want to share some concerns with you.' ... He was constantly expanding his vision," he added.
It is not yet clear what Kirk intended to tell Rubio. However, Newsmax reported that given all circumstances, it appears Kirk planned to issue a warning about President Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was elected in June.
At the Build Up Korea rally on September 6, Kirk stated, "There are many concerning things happening in Korea right now. Pastors are being arrested, and their private homes are being searched. I believe President Trump is closely watching the actions of this administration."
In July, the Korean prosecution searched the homes and offices of Pastor Kim Jang-hwan, chairman of Far East Broadcasting Company (also known as Billy Kim), and Pastor Lee Young-hoon, senior pastor of Yoido Full Gospel Church, famously one of the world's largest churches.
Kirk told the thousands gathered at the Build Up Korea rally, "I do not represent the U.S. government, but as people say, I am a private citizen. However, if Korea continues to act this way, it is the American way to stand up and fight for what is right."
Newsmax reported, "At that moment, the crowd began to chant, 'America! America!'"
Kirk added, "Only the young people of Korea can ensure that this shining lamp of freedom does not go out. The best way to fight against tyranny is for good people to stand up."
He further stated that the organizers of this event "are exposing themselves and risking their lives considering the current situation. But please know that we will not forget Korea, and we will be here whenever needed. Your fight is our fight."
Upon returning to the United States, Kirk said on his podcast, "Their country is under complete assault. Whether it's a legal war in Korea or the immigration issues in Japan, these are the same issues we've been fighting here, and they are global phenomena."
At Kirk's memorial service, Pastor Rob McCoy, co-founder of Turning Point USA Faith, recalled "visiting Korea with Kirk to support persecuted Korean Christians."
McCoy told attendees, "The government [of Korea] is raiding churches and imprisoning pastors. He (Kirk) spoke to the youth there, and they are now shouting 'I am Charlie Kirk' in the streets and fighting for freedom nationwide."
The U.S. administration has not yet specifically addressed the Lee Jae-myung government's religious persecution. To date, its official stance has been that the ROK-U.S. alliance is strong and that it supports Lee Jae-myung as a key strategic partner in the geopolitical competition between the U.S., China, and North Korea.
President Trump had previously drawn attention by posting on Truth Social in August, just before his meeting with Lee Jae-myung, "What is happening in Korea? It looks like a purge or a revolution. You cannot do business in such a situation."
In fact, during his meeting with Lee Jae-myung, Trump questioned him about the searches of churches and the Osan Air Base. At the time, Lee Jae-myung evaded direct answers regarding the church raids and the Osan Air Base search, offering a false explanation that a special prosecutor was not within his purview.
He also stated in his speech at the UN General Assembly, "Together, let us defend freedom of the press and freedom of expression. Let us protect religious freedom, including for Christianity, the most persecuted religion on Earth today."

Appearing on 'Fox & Friends' on September 23, Senator Rubio said, "Charlie Kirk wasn't just an individual who was involved in American politics and political discourse. Charlie was a personal friend of many people in the White House and in the current administration. I was interacting with him up until just a few days before he passed away because... he was in Korea and he was eager to get back and tell me about what he had witnessed over there. And many other people, especially those who were very close to the Vice President personally. Many of the staffers."
"And so I think there's a new element that's been added to this situation," Rubio added.
Lee Seok-won, who holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from New York University, reportedly told Newsmax that "Charlie Kirk likely wanted to convey that Korea is transforming into a de facto dictatorship that suppresses religious and political opponents, with many spies from the Chinese Communist Party and North Korea infiltrating and manipulating public opinion."
Newsmax introduced Save Korea as "the second-largest conservative political activist group in Korea" and reported that Pastor Son Hyun-bo, who led Save Korea, was arrested shortly after Charlie Kirk's return to the United States.
Furthermore, the Build Up Korea YouTube channel suddenly went offline (was "폭파," meaning exploded or shut down) after Kirk's death, only to be restored the following day, which became a topic of discussion.
This incident occurred amidst various Korean conservative YouTubers experiencing monetization restrictions or outright channel deletion.
Kim Min-ah, CEO and founder of Build Up Korea, did not respond to News & Post's interview request but introduced Kirk during his visit as "a warrior sent by God to fight for his country with everything he has."
Pastor McCoy revisited Sae-ro-gye Church in Busan last weekend and preached from the Book of Joshua. He likened Charlie Kirk to Moses, who liberated the Israelites from slavery, and connected the successor, Joshua, to Korean youth. He said, "Moses did not lead the Israelites into the promised land. It was Joshua who led Israel into the promised land."
