U.S. President Donald Trump stated on the 6th (local time) that he is "confident a deal will be reached soon" regarding negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas over his "Gaza peace plan."
President Trump made the remarks in response to reporters' questions during an executive order signing ceremony held at the White House that day, adding that "tremendous progress is being made."
President Trump noted that "Hamas has agreed on some very important issues," and conveyed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is also "very positive" about the Gaza peace negotiations.
He added, "We have even received signals from Iran that they want this (peace agreement) to happen."
Israel and Hamas have begun negotiations in Egypt, focusing on the first phase of the peace plan proposed by President Trump, which includes the release of hostages and prisoners by both sides and the "initial withdrawal" of the Israeli military. The two sides are conducting indirect negotiations through mediators Egypt, Qatar, and the United States.
Regarding Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, President Trump stated that he has "made some decisions" regarding the possibility of providing Tomahawk missiles.
However, he added, "Where will they send them? I think I might have to ask that question." This is interpreted to mean that he will make a final decision after reviewing Ukraine's plans for the use of the Tomahawks.
It is known that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President Trump on the 23rd of last month and requested support for Tomahawks, which are long-range precision-guided cruise missiles capable of striking deep into Russian territory, including the capital, Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on the 2nd that if the U.S. provides Tomahawks to Ukraine, it would result in "a completely new, qualitatively higher level of deterioration, including in Russia-U.S. relations."
Regarding Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is scheduled to visit the White House on the 7th, President Trump said, "He will probably ask about tariffs," adding, "It's because many companies are moving into the U.S. from Canada (because of the tariffs)."
He also mentioned a phone call earlier that day with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, saying, "We will start business one day. We talked about that, too."
