The processing of a short-term spending bill (continuing resolution, CR) to end the U.S. federal government shutdown failed again on the 6th (local time).

On this day, the sixth day of the shutdown, the U.S. Congress took up and voted on CRs proposed by Democrats and Republicans in the Senate, but both failed to secure the minimum 60 votes needed for passage.

As a result, the prospects for ending the shutdown, which began on the 1st and has entered its second week, remain uncertain.

The Republican stance of passing their CR to maintain current spending levels and reopen the federal government first, then discussing the extension of Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, remained at odds with the Democratic position that a commitment to extending ACA subsidies is necessary.

On this day, President Donald Trump commented on the social media platform Truth Social, stating that "(due to the failure to pass the CR) many programs, services, and infrastructure that Americans need will be affected. This should not have happened."

He added, "I am willing to discuss (Democrats' failed healthcare policy, ACA subsidies) together. However, resuming government operations comes first." He also said, "We should have resumed operations tonight."
