People Power Party Representative Jang Dong-hyeok speaks during a conversation with director Kim Duk-young at a cafe in Lotte Cinema Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, before watching the movie 'Founding War 2' on the 7th. Yonhap News.
On the 7th, People Power Party Representative Jang Dong-hyeok criticized President Lee Jae-myung's appearance on a cooking variety show, stating, "If you cannot properly judge what contributes to the lives of the people, there is no reason for you to be in that position."
Representative Jang made these remarks at a cinema in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, while responding to questions from reporters regarding the President's social media (SNS) messages, asserting, "Appearing on a variety show does not contribute to the lives of the people; being at the scene of a disaster is what contributes to their lives."
Representative Jang's comments appear to be directed at the President’s statement on his Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) accounts earlier that day, where he wrote, "Sometimes, even if it means sacrificing everything and enduring finger-pointing and misunderstandings, I will not hesitate to do anything if it can be of even the slightest help to the lives of the people."
President Lee and his wife, Kim Hye-kyung, participated in the recording of a special episode of the JTBC show 'Please Take Care of My Refrigerator' on the 28th of last month to promote K-Food, and the recorded episode aired the day before Chuseok.
The People Power Party has continued to criticize the President for filming a cooking variety show in the midst of the national computer network paralysis crisis.
Meanwhile, Representative Jang watched 'Founding War 2' alongside party officials, including Secretary-General Jung Hee-yong and Public Relations Director Seo Ji-young, as well as young people.
'Founding War 2' is an independent film that deals with the conflict between the left and the right surrounding the establishment of the government during the "liberation political landscape" from 1945 to 1950.
Representative Jang stated, "I believe 'Founding War 2' provides a new perspective on historical facts and seeks to present new historical information," adding, "History is easily distorted if diverse perspectives on viewing it are not acknowledged."
Following the movie, Representative Jang plans to move to a pub in Yeongdeungpo to hold a meeting with young people.
