U.S. President Donald Trump asserted on the 8th (local time) that Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker "should go to jail" for failing to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

President Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, that day, "The Mayor of Chicago has failed to protect ICE officers and should go to jail. The same goes for Governor Pritzker."

President Trump's remarks appear to refer to the situation where the safety of ICE officers is being threatened as protests against immigration enforcement intensify in Chicago.

Both Mayor Johnson and Governor Pritzker are members of the Democratic Party and have opposed President Trump’s hardline immigration enforcement policies.

Previously, President Trump ordered the deployment of the National Guard to Chicago, the largest city in Illinois, citing the need to curb crime and maintain public safety. In response, the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago have filed lawsuits to block the move.

Meanwhile, approximately 400 members of the Texas National Guard have arrived near Chicago and are preparing for their deployment into the city.

According to reports from outlets such as ABC News, these Texas National Guard troops are currently stationed at an Army Reserve training center in Elwood, located about 75 kilometers southwest of Chicago.
