  • No plans at the moment, but the possibility of a 'lightning meeting' is not entirely ruled out.

There are currently no plans for U.S. President Donald Trump to meet with North Korean Chairman Kim Jong Un during his upcoming trip to Asian countries, including South Korea, which coincides with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, a senior Trump administration official stated on the 24th (local time).

During a pre-trip telephone briefing for the press regarding President Trump's Asian tour, the senior official responded to a question about whether President Trump would meet Chairman Kim by saying, "The President has of course expressed his willingness to meet Kim Jong Un in the future, but it is not on the schedule for this trip."

However, the senior official left room for possibility by stating, "Of course, changes can occur."

This suggests that while there are no immediate plans for a North Korea-U.S. summit during President Trump's visit to Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea starting from today, the possibility of a meeting being spontaneously arranged due to a sudden proposal from President Trump cannot be entirely ruled out.
