  • Special Prosecutor's Team withdrawal reported around 6 PM… Eyes on the timing of re-execution
  • "We will protect the palace," supporters vow to stay up all night in various locations, preparing for a surprise midnight raid.

Update: October 27, 10:40 PM

As the forced investigation by the rebellion special prosecutor team into Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the New Party for Freedom and Innovation (former Prime Minister), failed on the 27th, supporters are staying at the scene to prepare for a surprise execution. Some supporters are strongly criticizing the search and seizure attempt, calling it a "tyrannical act."

Supporters, including citizens, party officials, and members of the "Anti-Fraudulent Elections and Corruption Prevention Unit (Bugubdae)," along with operators of conservative YouTube channels that have been delivering the investigation into fraudulent elections to viewers, have gathered at the entrance of Hwang's apartment in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, questioning the impartiality of the special prosecutor's investigation.

As of 10 PM, with deep darkness having fallen, they are procuring bottled water and food, and while sitting in a sit-in protest, they are intensely deliberating on measures to prevent the execution, with some also seen ready to stay up all night in anticipation of a prolonged situation.

Around 8 PM, a man in police uniform, identifying himself as the head of a nearby police station, announced through a loudspeaker, "The special prosecutor's team has withdrawn, so the incident you are concerned about will not occur. Please disperse voluntarily." Supporters protested, saying, "We cannot trust the police."

The rebellion special prosecutor team led by Jo Eun-seok had previously attempted a forced investigation into the residence of Hwang Kyo-ahn in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, around 9 AM on the same day, but failed to gain entry indoors. Media reports indicated that the special prosecutor's team withdrew its enforcement personnel from the scene around 6 PM.

The nature of the warrant issued by the special prosecutor and the specific charges listed therein have not yet been confirmed. It is not an arrest warrant for detention, and it is understood to be for the purpose of securing personal belongings such as mobile phones, but this has not been confirmed.

According to domestic media reports, the special prosecutor is investigating Hwang on charges of inciting rebellion by posting messages on social media (SNS) on December 4 last year, such as "Arrest Speaker Woo Won-shik."

In a press release that morning, the special prosecutor's team stated, "The case, which was reported to the police on charges of rebellion propaganda and incitement, has been transferred (to the special prosecutor)," but drew a line, saying, "Specific charges cannot be disclosed."

However, in a press briefing in the afternoon, in response to a media report linking it to SNS, it was added, "This is related to the actions of former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn on the day of the martial law declaration."

In this regard, there is a growing consensus at the scene that it is illogical to apply charges of "rebellion propaganda and incitement," which is not even "rebellion," to a prominent politician for a forced investigation, especially since the Constitutional Court is proceeding with the impeachment trial of President Yoon Suk-yeol without including charges of rebellion, and a judicial ruling on President Yoon's rebellion charges has not yet been issued.

Previously, the police initiated search and seizure operations against current and former executives of the Bugubdae to prove the charges of using Bugubdae's national organization for election campaigning during Hwang's independent candidacy in the 21st presidential election (violation of the Public Official Election Act), causing controversy over political retaliation and targeted investigations.

Rebellion Special Prosecutor - Former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn Stalemate for Over 9 Hours... Extreme Tension Prevails

Jo Eun-seok Rebellion Special Prosecutor Team Attempts Search and Seizure of Former Prime Minister Hwang's Residence on the Morning of the 27th... Fails to Enter Indoors

Fire trucks dispatched around 5 PM then returned... Supporters strongly protest in a sit-in formation

A stalemate of over nine hours is ongoing between the Jo Eun-seok Rebellion Special Prosecutor Team and Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the New Party for Freedom and Innovation (former Prime Minister), since the special prosecutor team initiated its forced investigation on the 27th.

The special prosecutor team began executing a search and seizure warrant on Hwang's residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, from around 9 AM on the same day.

The special prosecutor team and Hwang's side are in a tense standoff over the execution of the warrant, as Hwang's side refuses to open the door to the residence from inside.

The scene is filled with tension as supporters block the apartment entrance in a sit-in protest and vehemently protest against the special prosecutor team.

Supporters have planted flags on the exterior of the apartment stairs with slogans such as "Death Penalty for Election Fraud" to resist.

One supporter shouted, "The charge of rebellion propaganda and incitement itself does not make sense. The special prosecutor should stop the unjust search and seizure attempt and withdraw immediately."

Fire trucks and ambulances were dispatched to the scene around 5 PM but withdrew after 20 minutes. Some speculated that the special prosecutor intended to use firefighters to forcibly open the door and enter the residence.

As of around 6 PM, darkness is slowly descending upon the scene. It remains unconfirmed whether the warrant issued by the special prosecutor allows for forced investigation execution at night.

Former Prime Minister Hwang is reportedly inside his residence. A lawyer for Hwang's side, met at the search and seizure site around 12 PM, stated, "I understand that procedures such as appointing legal counsel are being prepared."

Previously, the special prosecutor's team announced through a press release that it was attempting to execute a search and seizure warrant for former Prime Minister Hwang's residence. The special prosecutor's team stated, "This is a case transferred from a report to the police on charges of rebellion propaganda and incitement," and added, "It is difficult to confirm the specific charges."

A representative of the special prosecutor's team also stated at the regular press briefing that afternoon, "This is related to the actions of former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn on the day of the martial law declaration," and "Specific details of the charges cannot be disclosed."

According to media reports, the special prosecutor is investigating Hwang on charges of inciting rebellion by posting messages on social media (SNS) on December 4 last year, the day after the emergency martial law was declared, such as "Arrest Speaker Woo Won-shik."

Previously, the police initiated search and seizure operations against current and former executives of the "Anti-Fraudulent Elections and Corruption Prevention Unit (Bugubdae)" to prove the charges of using Bugubdae's national organization for election campaigning during Hwang's independent candidacy in the 21st presidential election (violation of the Public Official Election Act), causing controversy over political retaliation and targeted investigations.
