The People Power Party argued on the 31st, in response to the guilty verdicts handed down in the first trial to private developers involved in the Daejang-dong development corruption scandal, that "it is a natural progression for President Lee Jae-myung, who was the final decision-maker at the time, to also be found guilty."
Park Sung-hoon, the chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary, "The key figures in the Daejang-dong corruption scandal have all received heavy sentences and been taken into custody in the first trial. The judiciary has acknowledged the reality of the power-driven corruption that occurred when President Lee was the mayor of Seongnam."
He urged President Lee, saying, "Do not remain silent any longer. You must clearly state your political and moral responsibility for the Daejang-dong and Baekhyeon-dong corruption scandals." He added, "The public will watch until the end to see where the ultimate responsibility for this case will lead."
He further commented, "Today's verdict is a signal that the collapse of the 'Lee Jae-myung Shielding Regime' has begun."
Meanwhile, during a press conference held before the court's ruling on the same day, People Power Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won stated regarding the Daejang-dong case, "For President Lee to also be tried in accordance with the Constitution will resolve national conflict and constitutional disputes. Face the trial with confidence." Yonhap News
