House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan sent letters on Tuesday (4th) to two telecommunications companies that had been subpoenaed by former Special Counsel Jack Smith as part of the 'Arctic Frost' investigation, demanding records from numerous Republican lawmakers.

Recently released documents indicate that the Biden administration's FBI initiated an investigation into the activities of former President Donald Trump and hundreds of his allies on January 6th, and in the process, obtained the phone records and location data of key members of Congress.

According to a report by National Review, Chairman Jordan sent letters to AT&T and Verizon demanding the submission of documents and communication records related to former Special Counsel Smith's subpoenas.

In his letters to both companies, Chairman Jordan stated, "Recently unsealed Justice Department internal documents reveal that former Special Counsel Jack Smith concurrently sought nondisclosure orders against your companies to compel the production of phone records from multiple Republican members of Congress while simultaneously blocking the public disclosure of any Justice Department subpoenas issued to those individuals."

He continued, "These findings raise serious concerns about potential legal and constitutional violations, including violations of the Speech or Debate Clause, and therefore we request documents and information that will assist in our oversight responsibilities." He added, "It is deeply concerning that the Biden-Harris Justice Department has abused federal law enforcement authority to carry out politically motivated prosecutions of President Trump in a clandestine and partisan manner, including by surveilling the communications of current members of Congress."

Verizon confirmed receipt of the letter from Jordan and stated that it is cooperating with the investigation.

These letters were sent after the telecommunications companies submitted subpoena-related documents as part of an inquiry by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley. Newly released records revealed Verizon's compliance and AT&T's opposition when faced with Smith's requests for personal information.

Both companies had received gag orders signed by U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg, which directed the companies not to inform lawmakers of the subpoenas for a period of one year.

Boasberg was appointed as a federal judge by President Obama.

In relation to this, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) demanded last weekend that Judge Boasberg testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding his role in the surveillance of Republican senators.

The revelation that the FBI monitored the phone records of Republican senators as part of the 'Arctic Frost' operation, prior to Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation, has sparked outrage among lawmakers.

Representative Brandon Williams (R-Texas) is reportedly drafting articles of impeachment against Judge Boasberg. Williams stated that he was "working on it" in response to Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) urging Boasberg's impeachment.
