Those allegedly involved in "dropping the appeal" to obstruct the prosecution's appeal in the Daejang-dong case, which was brought against individuals suspected of misappropriating astronomical profits, have been collectively indicted. Lee Jae-myung is among them.

Garo Sero Institute (Gaseyeon) announced on the 8th that it had filed a complaint with the police against Lee Jae-myung, Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho, Acting Prosecutor General Noh Man-seok, and former Seoul Central District Prosecutor Jeong Jin-woo, among four individuals, on charges including abuse of power.

Kim Se-ui, CEO of Gaseyeon, read news from social media on a broadcast and directly stated, "This is grounds for impeachment of Lee Jae-myung." He added, "It's natural for Lee Jae-myung to go to jail, and he and (Jeong Seong-ho) should go to jail hand in hand. Gaseyeon has ignited the complaint regarding the dropping of the appeal."

CEO Kim continued, "On September 30th, Lee Jae-myung made remarks at a State Council meeting stating that prosecutors cause suffering to the public by indicting on flimsy grounds and then appealing and seeking review if acquitted, unjustly interfering with judicial procedures. Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho responded that he would consider amending the law to restrict appeals except in special cases." He further stated, "Following Lee Jae-myung's remarks, the practical obstruction of the prosecution's right to appeal through a chain of command including the Minister of Justice, the Acting Prosecutor General, and the Seoul Central District Prosecutor is an act that directly undermines the constitutional principle of separation of powers," and submitted the complaint.

He went on to say, "The Daejang-dong criminal proceeds to be recovered amount to 770 billion won, and they should have been fully recovered. However, due to the prosecution's dropping of the appeal, the maximum recovered amount is only 47.3 billion won. In my opinion, isn't it a profitable venture for them to go to jail for about 4-5 years? If they go to jail for 4-5 years, at most 8 years, and have 770 billion won, they are making 100 billion won a year, so they'll think it's worth going to jail. It is truly infuriating and unbelievable," he lamented.

The following day, the 9th, the Committee for the Livelihood of the People (Seominwi) also filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency against Noh and Park Cheol-woo, head of the Anti-Corruption Division of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, on charges of dereliction of duty, abuse of power, obstruction of business, and defamation.

Seominwi also alleged that the Ministry of Justice and the Presidential Office were involved in dropping the appeal and collectively filed complaints against Jeong, Vice Minister of Justice Lee Jin-soo, Lee Jae-myung's confidant Kim Hyun-ji, and Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs Bong Wook on charges of abuse of power, obstruction of business, and defamation.

In their complaint, Seominwi argued that they failed to perform their duties as required by the Constitution and laws during the process of dropping the prosecution's appeal, and that their power was abused, requesting a thorough investigation to uncover all charges.

Seominwi's complaint. / Capture.In particular, Seominwi explained the criminal acts and related laws concerning abuse of power in the complaint and stated, "Considering these facts, the highly inappropriate and illegal actions of the defendants have led to an 'abolition of the prosecution' that breeds lawless measures shaking the foundation of the rule of law. This has evolved into the 'destruction of the judicial system' by attempting to erase 'President Lee Jae-myung's judicial risks,' a shameless and barbaric lawlessness." They further criticized, "We cannot help but be shocked by the brazen impudence that has led to the downfall of the last pride and trust of approximately 2,300 prosecutors and 7,800 investigators, a total of 10,000 people."

They continued, "The absurd measures resulting from the irresponsible and thoughtless actions of these defendants are a betrayal and mockery of the public, breaking the law and principles. The incompetence that exacerbates social chaos risks undermining the common sense, law, and principles that support this society if even the complainants overlook it. When shortcuts through power, rather than fairness and justice, become rampant and social balance collapses and solidifies, the reality is that the public's shame is prolonged, and trust in the rule of law of liberal democracy is broken. We are filing this complaint to rectify this situation." They emphasized, "If the criminal facts are revealed through a swift and thorough investigation, regardless of position or status, strict standards will be applied according to the principle of zero tolerance, and severe punishment is the only path that aligns with public sentiment."
