It has been reported that evidence of collective cheating via KakaoTalk open chat rooms has been detected in a large-scale non-face-to-face liberal arts course at Korea University.

The university, after assessing the facts, has nullified the entire midterm examination.

According to Yonhap News' comprehensive coverage on the 10th, the course in question is a liberal arts subject titled "Multidisciplinary Understanding of an Aging Society," a non-face-to-face online lecture with approximately 1,400 students enrolled.

The midterm exam for this course was conducted online and non-face-to-face on the 25th of last month. However, it was revealed through reports from other students that some students shared their exam screens in open chat rooms during the test, engaging in cheating.

On the 27th of last month, the university issued a notice titled "Regarding the Unprecedented Midterm Exam Situation," informing students that "The professors are greatly shocked that such an incident occurred at a prestigious private institution."

It further stated, "We can by no means overlook such cheating, thus we are taking the exceptional measure of nullifying the entire midterm examination."

The university told Yonhap News, "We understand that students captured and shared exam screens with each other in various chat rooms," and added, "We are currently discussing how to handle the students involved in cheating and how to administer the final exam."
