  • "Unable to yield to injustice," states position before arrest
  • "If a mad dog is wandering around, it should be beaten to death with a club."

Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the Freedom and Innovation Party, was arrested and taken in by the special prosecutor for sedition on the 12th (Korean time).

It is understood that Hwang was accused of inciting sedition. Specifically, he was identified for making public evidence of election fraud and for supporting President Yoon Suk-yeol's declaration of martial law.

Hwang, accompanied by his lawyers, emerged from his home and, in front of his supporters and the police officers who came to arrest him, stated his position by saying, "We cannot surrender to injustice."

He continued, "What happens when a thief, a mad dog, wanders around the neighborhood? You have to beat it with a stick, right? Can you just leave it alone?" he said, "I am fighting a mad dog right now."

As he said this, a special prosecutor's officer attempted to arrest Hwang by grabbing his right arm. Hwang broke free from the officer's grasp and continued speaking.

He stated that his opponent was neither the police officers nor the special prosecutor, but rather, "I am fighting against the Lee Jae-myung regime that has overthrown democracy, a dictatorial anti-democratic regime."

Hwang said, "If the subordinate calls, should I go?" He added, "It's illegal, and you want me to go down on my own? I cannot do that."

"Is it right for me to voluntarily hand over materials when they forcefully search and seize them and demand them? I think that's absurd. I will fight against the anti-democratic dictatorship until the end."

Regarding being called an "accomplice to sedition," Hwang retorted, "But was there even such a crime as sedition?"

Having lived his entire life as a legal professional and a public security prosecutor, he stated, "Why would I not know what sedition is? I legally judge that there was no sedition. There was no sedition itself." He continued, "What did President Yoon do? He merely searched and seized the National Election Commission through martial law. He did nothing. You see. He only ordered a search and seizure of the National Election Commission, which is the root cause of election fraud."

Hwang concluded, "You who are destroying the country by overlaying it with sedition are the ones committing sedition."

He added, "I will offer my life as a sacrifice to the nation and the people to protect the liberal democracy of the Republic of Korea. I will protect the free Republic of Korea until the end."

Furthermore, Hwang revealed that he was "shocked" upon hearing the charges against him. He stated that the special prosecutor's team mentioned the 106 cases of election fraud that were recently disclosed as his criminal acts.

He exclaimed, "Does this make sense? I will fight against injustice until the end!"

His supporters chanted, "Let's fight!" and Hwang passed through them to accompany the special prosecutor.

Regarding Hwang's arrest, lawyer Park Ju-hyun stated, "This is the first investigation for inciting sedition, and the first instance where an arrest warrant and a search and seizure warrant have been executed like this." She added that President Yoon Suk-yeol's exercise of emergency powers and the subsequent investigation and arrest warrant for "supporting it on Facebook as inciting sedition, and the issuance of arrest and search and seizure warrants to oppress the people" is not only the oppression of former Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn but also can only be seen as the oppression of "over 60% of the Korean citizens who supported President Yoon Suk-yeol at the time."

Park lawyer stated, "This is nothing short of a declaration of war to oppress the citizens of the Republic of Korea, and can only be seen as an act of continuing dictatorial regime, insane police actions, and insane special prosecutor actions." She added, "We absolutely cannot accept this kind of oppression of the people."

Furthermore, Park lawyer questioned the special prosecutor's claim that allegations of election fraud constitute incitement to sedition, asking, "If there is election fraud, it should be investigated." She asked, "Is it truly a just action to arrest and search individuals who inform the public of the truth that election fraud has occurred?"

He pointed out, "There has been enormous election fraud in the Republic of Korea," and asked, "Doesn't it seem real that China has already intervened in South Korea's election fraud?" He mentioned China's visa-free entry for Chinese citizens and the proposal of laws to punish those who criticize China.

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State John Mills has stated that Wang Huning and Han Zheng are hosts of election fraud.

Park lawyer stated, "This investigation into Party Leader Hwang Kyo-ahn is the beginning of the oppression of the Korean citizens, and if we do not react with anger and remain silent, you will be next."

The special prosecutor team for sedition, led by Cho Eun-seok, who forcibly executed Hwang's arrest warrant, forcibly damaged the electronic lock on the door of Hwang's home in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, around 8 a.m. that morning and entered the premises.

During this process, three party staff members who tried to prevent the police officers from entering were taken into custody. One of them suffered a fractured finger and symptoms of a concussion and was taken to the hospital.

Hwang made similar remarks to reporters waiting in front of the prosecution office afterward.

Members and supporters of the Freedom and Innovation Party held a rally in front of the special prosecutor's office, claiming that Hwang's arrest was illegal.
