Elon Musk's criticism of a judge posted on social media X has reignited the "Korea-US parallel theory." Fox TV capture.
Amidst a parliamentary impeachment request for Judge Lee Jin-gwan, Elon Musk's "judge criticism" post is setting social media (SNS) ablaze.
On the 25th, a petition titled "Petition for Impeachment Request Regarding Judge Lee Jin-gwan's Illegal Detention and Abuse of Power Against a Lawyer" was posted on the National Assembly's 'National Consensus Petition' site.
The petitioner stated the purpose of this petition as: "We strongly condemn Judge Lee Jin-gwan of the Seoul Central District Court for issuing an illegal order of removal and detention against lawyers Lee Sang-ha and Kwon Woo-hyun, lawyers for Minister Han Duck-soo, during the trial of the Prime Minister's case on November 19, 2025, infringing upon constitutionally guaranteed rights to counsel and to observe trials. We point out that such actions are serious illegal acts that severely undermine the neutrality and fairness of the judiciary in the Republic of Korea."
The petitioner further added, "Therefore, for the protection of citizens' fundamental rights and the restoration of judicial justice, we solemnly petition for the swift initiation of impeachment proceedings against Judge Lee Jin-gwan at the parliamentary level."
Firstly, the petitioner requested that "the National Assembly Impeachment Committee conduct a swift and rigorous investigation into Judge Lee Jin-gwan's illegal detention and abuse of power."
They also demanded, "If illegal acts are confirmed, immediately initiate impeachment proceedings to protect judicial justice and citizens' fundamental rights," and "Seek measures to improve the judiciary's internal management and supervision system to prevent recurrence of similar cases, along with actions to restore public trust."
The petitioner wrote, "The public trusts that the judiciary will conduct fair and neutral trials in accordance with the Constitution and laws. However, this case constitutes a serious illegal act that severely undermines that trust, and a strong, responsible response from the National Assembly is absolutely necessary. Therefore, we, the citizens, solemnly demand the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Judge Lee Jin-gwan."
The national petition, which began today, will run until the 25th of next month and will be accepted if it receives over 100,000 agreements within the period. The submitted petition will be referred to the relevant parliamentary standing committee and, if it passes deliberation, will be presented to the plenary session for a vote.
Meanwhile, on the 25th (local time) in the United States, a "breaking news" post on social media (SNS) X by Elon Musk emphasizing judges' accountability has become a hot topic.
The X account @MAGAVoice posted, "BREAKING: Elon Musk just told his 229 Million followers that “There MUST be accountability for judges,” which is currently going viral.
Korean users are sharing this post on various online communities, commenting, "Whether it's elections or the judiciary, Korea and the US are parallel worlds," "Haengbae, Jin-gwan, do you think you are an exception to those words?" and "It feels like it's being said about judges in our country," drawing many comparisons between the situations in Korea and the United States.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk has recently strongly criticized the "tyranny of the judiciary," making statements such as calling judges "corrupt" and demanding that "the judge should be impeached" in relation to: the nullification of Tesla CEO's compensation plan (December 2024), conflicts with the Brazilian Supreme Court (April 2024), rulings blocking Trump administration policies (March 2025), and rulings related to immigrants and crime.
