The People Power Party submitted a request for a parliamentary investigation into the abandonment of the appeal in the Daejang-dong case on the 2nd.

The party's leadership, including Deputy Floor Leader Kim Eun-hye, submitted a request to the National Assembly for a parliamentary investigation at the committee level of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to clarify the truth behind alleged external pressure to abandon the appeal in the Daejang-dong development preferential treatment and corruption case.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the request, Deputy Floor Leader Kim stated, "During negotiations between the ruling and opposition parties, the Democratic Party of Korea talks about 'fabricated indictments and insubordination,' which are completely unrelated to a parliamentary investigation into the abandonment of the appeal." She added, "This not only goes against the purpose of a parliamentary investigation but is also a claim that deviates from the essence of the matter, which is why the People Power Party is submitting the request for a parliamentary investigation related to external pressure to abandon the appeal."

She continued, "We agreed to a parliamentary investigation at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee level as requested by the Democratic Party, but we have heard nothing back as time goes by." She pointed out, "We have done everything the Democratic Party wanted, but there has been no response. The public will know their intentions, whether they simply don't want to do it."

She emphasized, "Looking at the State Council meeting, President Lee Jae-myung thanked Minister of Justice Jung Sung-ho for his 'swan's foot role.' If Minister Jung is the foot, who is the body?" She declared, "We will reveal this through a parliamentary investigation."

Previously, the People Power Party had requested a parliamentary investigation at the special committee level. However, after fully accepting the Democratic Party's proposal for a parliamentary investigation at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee level, they set conditions such as ▲ the appointment of Representative Na Kyung-won as the opposition party's whip on the Legislation and Judiciary Committee, ▲ a halt to the unilateral operation of the committee, and ▲ the selection of witnesses and reference persons for the investigation through a bipartisan agreement.

However, even after accepting the parliamentary investigation plan at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee level, the Democratic Party did not accept the plan, citing issues with the condition of appointing Representative Na as the committee's whip. Consequently, the People Power Party withdrew all conditions and submitted the request for a parliamentary investigation into the abandonment of the appeal in the Daejang-dong case on their own.
