Choo Kyung-ho, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, stated in response to the special prosecutor's indictment on charges of engaging in a critical mission for rebellion on the 7th, "I urge the special prosecutor and the political forces behind it, such as the Democratic Party of Korea, to cease further political oppression and attempts to intimidate the judiciary."

In a statement released after the special prosecutor's indictment on the same day, Rep. Choo said, "As was the predetermined conclusion from the moment the special prosecutor's office was established, the charges were forcibly and unreasonably fitted to push through this unwarranted indictment."

He countered, "The special prosecutor's office acknowledged in the detention warrant hearing that I had no prior collusion with former President Yoon Suk-yeol regarding martial law," adding, "At the time, I did not receive any request from former President Yoon to cooperate with maintaining martial law during our phone call."

He further emphasized, "Despite the court's decision to reject the detention warrant request due to the special prosecutor's failure to substantiate the charges, the political indictment was pushed through without any additional evidence. I will clearly prove in court that the charges of rebellion leveled against me are fabricated."

Choi Soo-jin, the party's senior deputy floor leader, also issued a statement, arguing, "The special prosecutor's office has again forced a fabricated indictment, even though the court clearly rejected Rep. Choo's detention warrant with explicit reasons. It is common sense for Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok to apologize for the unreasonable warrant request and step down."

She urged, "This is not an investigation to uncover the truth, but political oppression rushing towards a predetermined conclusion. The attempt to push a political frame by mobilizing sensational politics to brand the opposition party as 'rebellion forces' and a 'constitutionally unconstitutional party' must be immediately stopped."

The special prosecutor's team had requested a detention warrant for Rep. Choo on November 3rd, but the court, after a hearing for the suspect prior to detention (warrant examination) on the 2nd, rejected the request.

Rep. Choo is accused of obstructing other lawmakers from participating in a vote to lift martial law by repeatedly changing the location of the party caucus, after receiving a request from former President Yoon Suk-yeol's side to cooperate with martial law during the declaration of emergency martial law last year when he was the floor leader.
