President Donald Trump highlighted his economic achievements at a rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night. Pennsylvania could play a crucial role in the Republican Party's bid to maintain its House majority in the 2026 midterm elections.
Speaking under a banner that read "Lower Prices, Higher Wages," Trump stated, "I have no higher priority than making America a great place to live again. I'll say it again: They raised the prices, and we are lowering them. That's our message. They brought you high prices, and they brought you inflation, the highest in history. And we are bringing them down fast."
He added, "Prices are going down, wages are going up, inflation is going down and it's being destroyed. Wages are much higher too. Actually, the only thing going up big is the stock market. And your 401(k)s are going up."
The event was held at the Mount Airy Casino Resort in Mount Pocono, a working-class city in northeastern Pennsylvania, a region Trump won by a 9% margin in the 2024 presidential election.
As the crowd chanted "Four more years!", Trump was met with applause when he said, "We have 3 years and 2 months left. You know what that is in Trump time? That's eternity."
The speech comes as Democrats and mainstream media outlets warn that the housing affordability crisis will be a major issue heading into the midterm elections.
However, there are also significant dissenting opinions. Pollster Peter Alock countered the Democratic warnings of a crisis in an interview with Newsmax on Wednesday, calling them "false claims."
"For the Democrats to talk about housing affordability is like Bonnie and Clyde preaching about public safety," he stated. "They are the real enemies of the working class when they do that. You know, oil prices are coming down quite a bit. Energy prices. Honestly, when oil comes down, everything comes down because there is nothing more expensive than oil."
He emphasized that lowering energy prices is paramount, adding, "And that is being done with more drilling and more fuel production than we have had in this country in a long time."
Inflation, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), has risen slightly to 3% from 2.8% in February, the first month of President Trump's second term. However, concerns that tariffs would lead to a surge in inflation that would erode workers' wages have not materialized.
The White House has also pointed out that real wages for hourly workers have seen their largest increase under any administration in the last 60 years.
Trump asserted, "When Biden and the Democrats took power, they ruined our economy and sent prices soaring. Poor Biden didn't know what was going on. Oh, I'm sorry, it wasn't Biden's fault. It was the maniacs surrounding him."
