The union of the Seoul Metropolitan Government Corporation, which operates Seoul subway lines 1 through 8, will go on a full-scale strike starting with the first train on the 12th.

The No. 1 union, the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Seoul Transportation Corporation Union, declared the breakdown of final negotiations with the management around 3:30 AM on this day.

Management and labor began their final negotiations on the wage and collective agreement (WCA) at the company's headquarters in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, at 1 PM the previous day and adjourned after 40 minutes.

Afterward, they continued extensive working-level negotiations until dawn, but the disagreements could not be narrowed, leading to the inability to resume main negotiations and ultimately the collapse of the talks.

Separate negotiations between the Corporation and the No. 2 union, the Federation of Korean Trade Unions Seoul Transportation Corporation Integrated Union, and the No. 3 union, the Righteous Union, are still ongoing.

As of July this year, the proportion of union members by union is highest for the No. 1 union at 57.4%, followed by the No. 2 union at 16.4% and the No. 3 union at 12.6%.
